Liverpool 2 – Aston Villa 2

I actually had written something for this blog right after the game. I noticed it was filled with lots of disappointment and maybe anger too. So.. I decided to bin that post and write another one after 2 days once I cooled down.

Needless to say, the 2 all draw against Villa was simply atrocious! It was as joke really. To be controlling the game against a good team such as Aston Villa and not able to kill the game off was really poor! United or Chelsea would have killed the game off instantly. I don’t know if the off-the-pitch issues with regards to the Yankie owners and Benitez have gotten to the players. Captain, Steven Gerrard does think so….

I didn’t expect us to win the EPL title, but what I did want was the team to push closer to the top this season. Hopefully with more quality players next season, we can win the title in a few years time. I don’t think we ever did have any chance this year as the team is still not up to quality.

Speaking of the game, Benayoun did well on the right wing and pounced on the oppurtunity to score that goal. Sami Hyppia performed brilliantly actually to stop the on coming Villa attack. What we didn’t do so well was defending against set pieces. And that’s all that is needed. Aston Villa really was never controlling the game. They needed abit of luck to get 2 chances at goal. The second one was a brilliant own goal by Aurelio. Only saviour of the day was Crouch.

Poor game. Things don’t look so bright with Liverpool these days.

In the video below, you can hear how disappointed Rafa was…

Top 10 most expensive transfers

Soccerlens just wrote an article with regards to the top 10 most expensive transfers in soccer. What I did notice is that, if you pay (huge amounts) for quality players, you get your returns.

The list:

Top 10 Premier League Transfers

1. Andriy Shevchenko: AC Milan to Chelsea – 30 million GBP (2006)
2. Rio Ferdinand: Leeds to Manchester United – 29.1 mil (2002)
3. Juan Sebastian Veron: Lazio to Manchester United – 28.1 mil (2001)
4. Michael Essien: Lyon to Chelsea – 24.43 mil (2005)
5. Didier Drogba: Marseille to Chelsea – 24 mil (2004)
6. Wayne Rooney: Everton to Manchester United – 23 mil (2004)*
7. Shaun Wright-Phillips: Manchester City to Chelsea – 21 mil (2005)
8. Fernando Torres: Atletico Madrid to Liverpool – 20 mil (2007)
9. Ricardo Carvalho: Porto to Chelsea – 19.85 mil (2004)
10. Ruud Van Nistelrooy: PSV to Manchester United – 19 mil (2001)

Well, you can see Manchester United and Chelsea mainly paying huge sums for their players. And I would say it has brought dividends for them. Only blips there I would say is Veron and you could say SWP. Shencheko, he too has not performed to his value.

Liverpool payed a good 20 million for Torres and what a buy he has been. He scores goals, that’s what he’s suppose to do. Takes alot of weight from Gerrard but as you know the current Liverpool teams relies on these two players a little too much. Liverpool need to spend more, buy more quality players… and if I means stumping 20 million or more for them… DO IT!

Well, in saying that, a tough game tonight against Aston Villa, a very, very good team in my opinion. Difficult to beat. Liverpool have two games in hand and we’re like 15 points away from United. Losing the next two games will be a disaster to say the least.. as I think the 4th spot for the Champions League will be lost all together.
